Privacy Policy
Effective 8 November 2026
In short
BatterySnap keeps your data on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Sharing anonymous battery readings for community statistics is off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time.
This policy covers the BatterySnap app for iPhone, made by Jerry Wass (“we”, “us”). Questions: support@batterysnap.app.
Data on your iPhone and in your iCloud
Everything you enter stays on your iPhone: vehicles, registration plates, VINs, batteries, measurements, notes and reminders. We cannot see it.
If iCloud is on for BatterySnap, the app saves a backup file to your own iCloud Drive, so your data survives deleting the app or changing phones. The backup is stored by Apple in your iCloud account under Apple’s privacy terms. We have no access to it. You can delete it in the iPhone’s Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Account Storage, or in the Files app.
Camera, location and other phone features
| Feature | What it is used for | Where the data goes |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Reading the battery tester’s screen and the battery label | Text is read on the iPhone. Images are never saved or sent anywhere. |
| Location (only while using the app) | Looking up the air temperature for a measurement | Your approximate position is sent to Apple Weather (WeatherKit) once per measurement. Only the temperature is kept, never the location. You can turn this off in BatterySnap’s Settings. |
| Apple Intelligence | Writing a short summary of a battery’s condition | Runs entirely on the iPhone. Nothing is sent. |
| Notifications | Reminders to test a battery | Scheduled on the iPhone. Nothing is sent. |
You can allow or refuse the camera, location and notifications in the iPhone’s Settings › BatterySnap. The app works without them; you type the values instead.
Anonymous community statistics (optional)
If you turn on Share Anonymously in Statistics, BatterySnap shares your battery readings so everyone can see how battery models age. It is off by default, and the app shows a preview of exactly what will be sent.
| Shared | Never shared |
|---|---|
| Battery brand, model, type, capacity and rating | Your name, Apple Account or email |
| Battery age in months, and months stored before installation | Vehicles, registration plates and VINs |
| Year and month of each test (not the day) | Battery names and notes |
| Measured values: voltage, cranking amps, health, charge, internal resistance, verdict | Exact dates and times |
| Air temperature, which analyser was used, and where it was clamped | Your location |
| Whether values were scanned or typed | Images |
| Your country, from the iPhone’s region setting | Demo data |
Each battery gets a random code, so its readings can be grouped. The code is created on your iPhone and is not linked to you.
Shared readings are stored in Apple’s CloudKit public database for this app. Apple records a random identifier for the sender of each reading. We cannot link it to your Apple Account, name or email, and we use it only to limit how much one sender can influence the statistics. Other users of the app can read the shared readings.
Turning sharing off deletes everything you have shared. Turn it off before deleting the app: after the app is deleted, we have no way to find your readings.
What we don’t do
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no advertising identifier.
- No ads, and no analytics or crash-reporting services.
- No selling or renting of data, and no sharing with data brokers.
- No accounts or sign-in.
The only company that handles data for BatterySnap is Apple: iCloud for your backup, CloudKit for shared readings, and Apple Weather for temperatures. Apple’s handling is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy. This website does not use cookies or analytics.
Your rights and choices
You control your data directly in the app:
- See it: everything is shown in the app; Statistics › Preview shows what would be shared.
- Delete it: delete batteries and measurements in the app, delete the app, and delete the iCloud backup as described above.
- Withdraw consent: turn off Share Anonymously; your shared readings are deleted.
The legal basis for sharing readings is your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). If you live in the EU, EEA or UK, you also have the rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection, and you may complain to your data protection authority (in Sweden, IMY). Because we cannot link shared readings to you, we may not be able to find them from a request alone.
Children
BatterySnap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new date. Significant changes are also announced in the app.
